Prostate cancer is now the commonest male cancer. There are 25,000 new cases every year.
Sir Chris Hoy’s recent diagnosis has been in the news and we echo his message to encourage those at higher risk to come forward to see us to request a simple PSA blood test.
Sadly, as evidenced by Sir Chris, some men have none of the commonly associated symptoms such as urinary hesitancy, frequency and poor stream.
There is now clear evidence that those with a family history and those of Afro-Caribbean descent have a significantly increased risk. The prostate cancer risk checker can help you to decide if you would like to have this test.
Dr Vikram Devalia of our Trevelyan House site has a specific interest in men’s health and will be hosting a webinar on Thursday 21 November (6:30pm-7:30pm) which we hope you will find interesting and informative.
He will explain, in more detail, the pros (and cons) of testing.
If you have received the text message invite, please register to attend via the unique link in the text and we will send you the link to the session accordingly. Please be aware that there is a limit and slots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The webinar will be delivered via Microsoft Teams and this can be accessed via the Microsoft Teams app or your Internet browser. There will be an opportunity to raise questions but we would hope that no personal information is divulged in the interactive session – no individual cases will be discussed due to confidentiality.
There is currently no national screening programme but we encourage those at increased risk to come forward to get tested.
